Favorite Natural Horse Care Resources on the Web
If you’re like me, then you probably use the web quite a bit to find information relating to natural horse care. There’s a lot of great information out there and some sources are obviously more reliable than others. Consulting your veterinarian and other natural horse care professionals is always a great idea, but when that’s not feasible, you can turn to the web and use your own best judgement.
I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite natural horse care resources on the web. Maybe you’ve heard of them–maybe you haven’t. They are all worth checking out though!
Safergrass.org: Invaluable articles on grass, pasture management, hay, metabolic conditions, etc. This site is owned by Katy Watts.
Getty Equine Nutrition, LLC: This is equine nutritionist, Dr. Juliet Getty’s site. Check out the library for some great nutrition articles. I also recommend her tele-seminars.
www.drkellon.com: Dr. Eleanor Kellon’s site on equine nutrition. A few resources on here, but if you’re ever interested in taking some equine nutrition courses, this is the place to go!
Barefoot Hoof Care
Hoof Rehabilitation Specialists: Pete and Ivy Ramey’s website. Invaluable how-to articles and lots of rehabilitation hoof pictures. If you haven’t heard of him, Pete is one of the leading natural hoof care gurus. I highly recommend his book, Making Natural Hoof Care Work for You and his dvd set (available through his website) as well.
HealthyHoof.com: Hoofcare and Information for Barefoot Soundness. This site is owned by Linda Cowles, a barefoot hoof care specialist in northern California. Lots of great articles and information on hoof health and trimming and horse health and care.
Iron Free Hoof: Learn to Read the Hoof. This is Paige Poss’s website. Great information on hoof anatomy (with diagrams and pictures) as well as trimming information.
All Natural Horse Care: Natural Barefoot Trimmer, Jenny Edwards’ site. Natural trimming articles as well as diagrams and pictures of hooves. Also has good information on natural horse keeping and care.
Natural Horse Health and Care
Holistic Horsekeeping: Dr. Madalyn Ward’s website. Many great articles on holistic horse health, with an emphasis on Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.
Soulful Equine®: Helping Your Horse Thrive. Natural Horse Care Specialist, Stephanie Krahl’s website. Lots of good articles on natural horse care, barefoot care, and nutrition.
The Soul of a Horse: Joe and Kathleen Camp’s website. This is one I just recently discovered, but there are some really good articles on a wide array of natural horse care subjects here. I just bought Joe’s book, The Soul of a Horse, too!
Of course, these are just a few of the many great natural horse care resources out there on the web, but these are ones I refer to on a frequent basis. Feel free to leave your favorite natural horse care website in the comments below.
